  1. LEARNING OUTCOMES
Learning Outcomes
Please describe the learning outcomes of the course: Knowledge, skills and abilities acquired after the successful completion of the course.
The course syllabus aims at clarifying the definition of the wetland as a natural ecosystem and the recognition of the various types of wetlands, at the knowledge of the legal status of protection of wetlands, in the description and analysis of the functions and the assessment of the values of wetlands, in the understanding of the principles of wetland management and in the drawing up  the management plan of a wetland.

Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to:

·      distinguish the basic elements that define a wetland ecosystem and recognize the different types of wetlands.

·      is aware of the international and national legal status of wetlands protection and understand the need to monitor developments in it.

·      understand the functions of wetlands as natural ecosystem processes that occur to varying degrees in each wetland and can be positively or negatively affected by human interventions.

·      recognize the values of wetlands as a result of ecosystem functions and distinguish the different assessment of values by different social groups.

·      realize the direct dependence of wetland functions and values and the interactions between them and conclude that management is an exercise in rational interventions that require constant monitoring.

·      understand the principles of wetland management, examine the level of occurrence of various functions in a wetland, assess the values produced and combine the results in order to propose appropriate wetland management measures.

·      know the contents of the management plan of a wetland and recognize that its compilation requires interdisciplinarity, cooperation and conflict prevention.
